The Negro National League was founded in 1920 by Rube Foster, independent of Organized Baseball's National Commission (1903–1920). The Negro Leagues were United States professional baseball leagues comprised teams predominantly made up of African Americans and included some Latin Americans.

Jackie Robinson was the first to break the baseball color line. The baseball color line was a line in American baseball, until the 1950s, which excluded players of Black African descent from Major League Baseball and its affiliated Minor Leagues. So for Jackie Robinson to play in the major leagues was a very biog deal because he broke the color line, set a new trend and opened a door for more individuals of African American descent to be able to play professionally. This also relates to the theme of this project because the right for him to play baseball was suprisingly granted. They invited him to a tryout in 1945 and he showed his skills and later was an official part of the team. I believe however that it was the responsibility for the mlb to let him play because they should not be able to not let somebody who shows they posses skill play baseball over skin color. Its an example of segregation witch at this time was still an issue.
By 1974, 27% of baseball players were African American. This statistic shows that over the years the number of black individuals playing baseball was higher which was a good sign because it meant that they were given the opportunity.
